There are 4 Ground Source Heat-pumps which have been servicing the university for over 10 years, delivering heating energy derived from an adjacent Bore Hole. ORLANDO REFRIGERATION & AIR CONDITIONING LTD are Robur’s Service Agent here in the UK; the only UK Service Agent with intensive Manufacturer training to be able to diagnose and break into the Ammonia Sealed System to carry out repairs. To keep our skill sets current, we frequently attend Engineer Training Courses at Robur in Italy.

We were called to the University with a unit tripping on High Generator Temperature. We investigated the issue and found the Solution Pump with a sticking Check-Valve. Due to the age of the unit we recommended whilst the Ammonia Solution is out of the unit, we replace the Solution Restrictor and Internal Pressure Relief Valve, very cheap and simple components to replace to ensure future reliability.

On fitting the parts, a leak test was carried out, repairs to the heat protection insulation and high temperature paint applied to the new mechanical unions. The unit ran up and non-condensable were purged out of the unit until fully clear. The Ammonia Solution and Ammonia charge were trimmed and the unit run tested all ok.

Another successful, cost effective repair of this Ground Source Heat Pump work horse, continuing its highly efficient heating to the university.
